RWTH Carbon Fiber Quartet

Since May 2018, the orchestra of Collegium Musicum of RWTH has had a string quartet of carbon fiber instruments at its disposal under the motto "Innovation Meets Culture." In this unique way, a link has been created in Aachen between research on one hand and innovation with music culture on the other.

The instruments are played by dedicated musicians from the orchestra. In the future, the string quartet will perform at RWTH events as well as other industry-related events in the region. The repertoire includes works from the Renaissance and late Romantic periods as well as works by Expressionist composers.

These carbon fiber instruments were developed by mezzo forte String Instruments, Werther, partly together with the Institut für Textiltechnik at RWTH Aachen University.

This new RWTH Carbon Fiber Quartet is sponsored by Dr.-Ing. Dr. Ing h.c.
